A ‘Cow’ with Giant strength
If you hail from the rural St Andrew communities of Airy Castle or Bowden Hill, chances are you know 'Cow'. It is claimed that he got the name based on his ability to lift ridiculously heavy objects.
Cow's given name is Calvin Scott, and he told THE WEEKEND STAR that once his name is mentioned, persons automatically know that his strength is needed.
"From you hear somebody say call 'Cow', a me that. Just know say them have sumpn heavy fi me lift up. Me strong man, very strong, and everybody round here know that," said Scott.
The 53-year-old, who claims to have the strength similar to that of Samson from the Bible, said the heaviest thing he has lifted was a car to get a punctured tyre removed.
He said his former principal gave him the name when he was 17 after he lifted a flower pot that was big enough for him to fit in.
"Me lift all big iron and them stuff deh man. All if a man car tyre puncture, me just lift up that in the air and make them fix it, a nuh nothing that," he told THE WEEKEND STAR. "Me all lift up two bag a cement and walk with it for about one mile. All ton a steel people call me to lift up man."
True representation
Scott added that he believes some of his manpower is hereditary, as his late father, Abraham, who was affectionately called 'Giant', was a true representation of how he was branded.
"Him did strong too. My father use to lift up heavy things for people around the community. A strong people family me come from, so me get some a me father strength. But me think me stronger," he said. "All one bucket a cow's milk me drink every week, straight from the cow, and me drink bush tea to give me strength." Scott said that he has a healthy appetite as well.
"Me can eat off all two pound a flour man, that anuh nuttin. All 10 dumpling, pound and a half a rice. Me eat like fowl enuh right around the clock," he said.
According to Scott, persons from other communities have also requested the moving services of Bowden Hill's strongest man.
"People call me fi carry cement, steel, sand and gravel all over man, all in a Portmore and other parts a St Catherine. Once them know me, them call me. About 44 years now me a lift up things," Scott told.
"From me a little boy me a lift up things man, a so me get me name. Me remember when me a go school as a small boy, me lift up all two big-size teacher and gone with them like flash."
