Patience in name and nature - Time and Patience waiting for COVID to die
Mirroring the name of the community, residents of Time and Patience in St. Catherine said they are being tolerant with the lockdown imposed on the parish because it is in their best interest.
When THE WEEKEND STAR drove to the community on Thursday, the streets appeared scanty as most residents were tucked away in their homes. We stumbled upon a few residents in their front yards who were willing to speak.
"Me a work wid the government policies, so if a stay in for a month, I will do it. That's why me live a Time and Patience because me patient," Dicky Greeen, 46, told THE WEEKEND STAR. "Me have me little daughter inside and me nuh wah carry nuh virus come give her and the rest of my family and neighbours," he added.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Tuesday announced a lockdown of the parish of St Catherine after 31 persons employed to the Alorica Call Centre in Portmore tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The measure is set to end on April 22, but Holness has served notice that the quarantine period could be longer.
Extend the lockdown
With the drastic rise in the number of coronavirus cases in St Catherine, Patricia Francis said she does not mind the lockdown as it is important to flatten the curve.
"I think Mr Holness will see it fit to extend the lockdown because we see what is happening around the world, and if he doesn't extend the time it's gonna get worse," Fracncis opined. "I am willing to wait out the time. I try to abide by Bible principles and if so be the case, I know I have to follow the supreme authority."
Likewise, Roger, who has been living in the area for 43 years, said the Government should extend the lockdown until it gets the problem under control.
"Me willing fi hold it out because this thing yah it affi leave Jamaica," he said
"Me nuh wah deh here and and if me must collect sumpu from mi neighbour dem affi push it through window pon stick. Jamaica is a nice place and me nuh want it reach deh so. Me just a beg the great Lord fi nuh make it go no further," Roger said.
