Police Federation was prepared for COVID-19
Though Jamaica's first confirmed case of the COVID-19 was announced yesterday, chairman of the Jamaica Police Federation, Patrae Rowe, said that members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) have been safeguarding themselves.
He told THE STAR that based on their high exposure to members of the public "Members of the force are being issued with hand sanitisers and wipes to be used as protective gear, and we know for sure that our officers are using them".
"We have had meetings with the High Command to discuss our preparedness for a potential outbreak. Sensitisation seminars have been conducted and we continue to keep our members abreast of precautionary measures," he said.
Rowe said that his team has been in preparation mode and now that there has been a confirmed case, efforts will be intensified.
"Based on our high exposure to members of the public, conversation started long ago within the JCF regarding our preventative measures. Work is currently being done to install hand sanitiser units in our frontline spaces, like the stations and areas within the police force where our officers interact a lot with the public," he said
Rowe also said that promoting healthy eating habits has always been a consistent area of advocacy for the JCF, and members are being re-advised to eat well to build up their bodies' defence against contracting the virus.
