Top cop looks to reduce sex crimes in St Elizabeth
The St Elizabeth police said they are well equipped to deal with sexual abuse in the parish.
Superintendent Samuel Morgan, head of the St Elizabeth police, noted that the parish has seen an increase in the number of sexual offences so far this year, but the police are working towards changing that reality.
"We have sufficient staff, persons trained with the capacity and the skills to deal with it," Morgan said.
"We are having tremendous success in clearing up these crimes, and we have been getting good convictions in the court also ... I believe that we have the competency and skills to deal with this particular matter," he added.
"We are not only taking it from an enforcement angle, but we will also be going into the schools to speak to the students," he said, while adding that the messages will also be taken to community groups and churches.
The superintendent warned that parents need to look into how they provide guardianship for their children.
"We are here, and we are prepared to deal with it because I believe these sex offenders are to be dealt with by law," he said.
