St Catherine resident Cornette Hylton has created a mineral solution that he believes is a more than useful treatment for coronavirus. Hylton, a lab technician, told THE STAR that the solution can help people overcome mild symptoms associated with COVID-19.

He explained that it is made "by putting minerals together", but refused to state what minerals or the quantities. "It's a mixture of minerals and natural ingredients that can be found around the place."

He said that persons who tested positive for COVID-19 have managed to get rid of the symptoms after using it.

"I actually used it on a confirmed positive case recently and within two days, the person got back taste and smell and all of that. It got rid of all of the symptoms," Hylton said.

"This person who tested positive had other family around them that actually contracted COVID, and all the symptoms they were starting to have disappeared after taking the treatment, so I know it works for all age groups," Hylton said.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness says that there is no specific treatment for COVID-19, the disease caused by a novel coronavirus. However, many of the symptoms can be treated, and therefore, any treatment is based on the patient's clinical condition.

Contacted about the formula created by Hylton, the Pharmaceutical Society Jamaica said that the Ministry of Health and Wellness must approve all pharmaceutical products being dispensed in Jamaica.

"Under the law, any product that is considered to be a pharmaceutical must be registered under the Ministry of Health and Wellness, and there is a procedure one would have to undertake to get approval," Dr Ernestine Watson, the society's president said.

"If a product is being sold as a home remedy you cannot classify it as a drug, you can't say it is being used for diagnosis or treatment for anything. Once you say that, MOH would have to register the product," Watson said.

Meanwhile, Hylton is not the only one who is convinced that the mineral solution works. A 21-year-old, who claimed to have experienced COVID-19 symptoms, said it helped her. "I lost my taste and smell without realising, and I just wasn't feeling well. I got the product and within a couple of days after taking it, my taste and smell was good. I felt so much better," she said.

Medical experts have said that the disappearance of COVID-19 symptoms, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath and lost of taste and smell, does not mean a person is cured of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. A person is deemed to have recovered from COVID-19 if they return two negative tests in a 48-hour period after initially testing positive.

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Meanwhile, Hylton said he has been doing medical-related research for 14 years. He is convinced about his invention, adding that it has proven useful with other ailments.

"I actually made this treatment about five years ago, because I used it to fight chikungunya and the common flu before, and persons got marvellous results, like in a day. All those pain, like in the joint and everything, went away in no time," he told THE STAR.

"I have gone the length for this thing, so I know its worth," he said. "When it goes into the body, it oxidises everything that is acidic throughout the joints, and burns anything that is foreign to the body; it's an excellent treatment and I have no doubts about it," he said

The treatment is often ingested after a diluted mixture with juice or water for best results. "Once they follow instructions and go through the regimen of the treatment, within two, three days they should be clear of the virus," Hylton said.
