A St Catherine man who allegedly broke into a house and attempted to rape an 80-year-old woman has been held by the Linstead police.

Charged with burglary and attempted rape is Ezra Cohen, 26-year-old labourer of Banbury District, St Catherine.

Reports are that about 4:30 a.m. on June 20, the complainant was at home in Banbury District, when Cohen invaded her premises.

He reportedly forced open a door to gain access. He then allegedly attempted to rape the woman.

She made an alarm and the accused fled. A report was made to the police and an investigation launched by the Linstead Criminal Investigation Branch.

Cohen was later arrested and charged. A statement was collected from the complainant who identified Cohen as the person who assaulted her.

He is booked to appear in the St Catherine Parish Court (Linstead) on July 5.
