Australia extend dominance with T20I win
Fresh off a 3-0 Test series sweep, Australia carried their winning momentum into the T20 International (T20I) series, defeating the West Indies by three wickets in a high-scoring thriller at Jamaica's Sabina Park last night.
Despite a spirited effort from the hosts, debutant Mitchell Owen (50 off 27 balls) and Cameron Green (51 off 26) spearheaded a clinical chase, overhauling West Indies' 189 for eight with seven balls to spare.
Opting to bowl first, Australia saw West Indies openers Brandon King and Shai Hope launched a fiery assault, racing to 56 for one in the PowerPlay.
Roston Chase then took charge, smashing a 26-ball 50 before Ben Dwarshuis (4-36) triggered a late collapse. Chase (60) and Hope (55) laid the foundation, but Dwarshuis' triple-strike in the 19th over, removing Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, and Jason Holder, restricted West Indies who appeared set to get a score close to or past 200.
Australia's reply began shakily, but Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis steadied the innings before Green unleashed a brutal assault, hammering three sixes off Alzarri Joseph.
Despite losing Inglis and Glenn Maxwell in quick succession, Green and Owen combined for a match-defining 80-run stand off just 40 balls.
Russell, playing his penultimate international game, was treated harshly as Owen clobbered two sixes in his over before launching Akeal Hosein for three consecutive maximums.
Green reached his fifty in just 25 balls but fell immediately after, leaving Owen to anchor the chase. The debutant brought up his half-century before falling to Joseph, but Cooper Connolly's towering six sealed the win in the 19th over.
