Frazsiers Whip return to winning ways, ready for semi-finals
Following their dominant 11-0 win over Mile Gully this weekend, Courtney Dowdie, head coach of Frazsiers Whip, will now turn his attention to the Jamaica Women's Premier League (JWPL) semi-finals as they take one step closer in their title-defence ambitions.
Frazsiers Whip closed out their regular season fixtures with a dominant win over Mile Gully on Saturday at the Excelsior High School field.
It was a return to winning ways for the club, who were held 1-1 against rivals Arnett Gardens in their previous fixture.
With the semi-finals now awaiting them, Dowdie said his players are ready to fight to defend their JWPL title.
"The next objective is to really have fun. Once the girls go out there and have fun, then we all play excellent football and I believe that once they can do that, then we can become victorious in defending our title," he said.
Frazsiers Whip will enter the semi-finals with an unbeaten record, winning 19 of their 20 games played, while recording a single draw.
They also scored 132 goals along the way, the best in the league, while also holding the best defensive record, conceding only nine goals.
Dowdie is confident ahead of the semi-finals as he believes his players will enter the knockout stages in the best form.
He, however, warned it will not be an easy route to the final, as the competition among the top teams remain fierce.
"When you look back at the Arnett game, we had about 17 chances and we didn't capitalise on those. So we went back to the drawing broad, did some sessions where we focused on finishing so it was really good today to see," he said.
"To go unbeaten, it was really what I was looking for. We lost our win streak so it was a wake-up call and it reminded the girls of the fact that there is competition in the league so we have to be careful how we play."
Frazsiers Whip will face Los Perfectos in the two-legged semi-finals while Arnett will take on Cavalier in their semi-final encounter.
The first leg is set for July 26 with the return leg set for August 2. Both games will be played at the Constant Spring Sports Complex.
