Girlz hit for four by US
In a contest which proved a mismatch from start to the finish, the Reggae Girlz fell 4-0 at the hands of the United States (US) in an international friendly played at the Energizer Park stadium in St Louis, Missouri, last night.
The US romped to victory due to a brace each from Ally Sentnor in the 19th and 28th minutes, and Lynn Biyendolo in the 60th and 88th minutes of play.
The four-time World champion controlled the proceedings and ended the game with a dominant 80 per cent share of possession.
The home team would start the game with strong attacking intent and got their first goal just before the 20-minute mark.
A diagonal ball from midfield would find Emily Fox free inside the box, allowing her to place a pass into the path of Sentnor, who finished easily with a first-time half volley just out of reach of Jamaican goalkeeper Liya Brooks.
The US would double their lead just nine minutes later with Sentnor once again hitting the net.
This time, her goal came through a bit of luck as a deflected shot off the legs of defender Chantelle Swaby fell at her feet, which she finished from close range.
Just three minutes after halftime, Biyendolo would add her name to the scoresheet by being in the right place at the right time.
A corner was initially parried by goalkeeper Brooks, but she could not move quick enough to deny Biyendolo who followed up on the loose ball.
With few minutes left on the clock, Biyendolo would cap the result with the game's fourth, and her second, goal of the night.
Catching the Jamaican backline high, the forward sprinted through on goal to put the ball into the roof of the net from close range.
The result is Jamaica's third consecutive loss in recent matches, after two defeats at the hands of Mexico in April.
The Reggae Girlz's next assignment will see them taking on England at the King Power Stadium on June 29.
