Waterhouse face ‘tough’ Arnett to keep play-off spot
Aware that anything short of a win could see them falling out of pole position for the final play-off spot, Waterhouse FC face a tough task when they play host to Arnett Gardens FC on Sunday in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL).
Waterhouse currently lead the race for qualification as they sit sixth on 55 points with two games left in the season.
However, right on their heels are Tivoli Gardens FC, who will be looking to snatch play-off contention from their rivals as they sit seventh on 54.
With just a point separating the two teams, Waterhouse will need to ensure they get the better of the 'Junglists', who have already secured their place in the post-season.
However, Arnett Gardens FC will not be easy pickings, as they are in the hunt for a place in the top two, which will see them advance as a seeded team and be given a bye to the JPL semi-finals.
Arnett Gardens FC are currently third on 70 points, trailing Montego Bay United FC who hold the advantage in second with 72.
Waterhouse enter the fixture in good form, as they have won three games in a row and are hoping to extend their run to four.
Andre Fletcher, who has netted 13 goals so far, is expected to lead the lines for Waterhouse, as three of his goals came in their last five games.
For Arnett, it has been a mixed bag of results as the Junglists have only won one of their last five games, a 3-1 drubbing of Vere Phoenix last time out.
Xavier Gilbert, head coach of Arnett, said it is important for the team to continue their winning form heading into the play-offs.
"Hopefully, we're getting everything right heading into the play-offs. We're still eyeing that second spot, so we just have to do what we have to do and hope that things fall into place," he said after their win against Vere Phoenix.
WEST KINGSTON VS CLARENDON
Tivoli Gardens FC will not be sitting idle, however, as they will face off against Chapelton Maroons FC in their Sunday afternoon fixture.
The west Kingston club has recorded identical 2-1 wins in their last two games against Harbour View FC and Vere Phoenix FC heading into the game, and will be confident they can continue their winning form against the relegation-embattled Chapelton Maroons.
Where form would see Tivoli being favoured to leave with all three points, Chapelton will not be dismissed without a fight, as their stay in the top flight hangs in the balance.
