Following their 3-1 loss to Molynes United on Sunday in Jamaica Premier League (JPL) action, Racing United are officially out of contention for the final spot for the league's playoffs.

Racing entered the match week needing a win to remain in touching distance of sixth place as they, along with Waterhouse and Tivoli Gardens, have been locked in a three-way race for playoff qualification.

The defeat to Molynes United, however, means Racing now sit eighth on 48 points, seven behind sixth place Waterhouse, 55, and six behind seventh place Tivoli Gardens, 54.

With only two games left in their season, Racing will not be able to close the gap and are mathematically out of playoff contention.

Racing's head coach Anthony Patrick said Sunday's result is a heavy disappointment for the club in an otherwise promising campaign.

He believes his team's inexperience and relative lack of numbers eventually made the difference at the end.

"There is some bitter disappointment for us. We are very disappointed in how it ended but we have to just know that we are here for the first time," he said

"When you look at the teams that are in the top six and the ones still fighting to be there, we were one of them but the seniority between the teams and the deeper squads really showed in the latter part of the season."

However, Patrick sung praises for his players and management staff in their fight throughout the campaign.

Racing became the first promoted team since the return of relegation in 2022 to maintain their spot in the top flight.

Patrick believes this experience will be the stepping stone for their future as a mainstay club in the JPL.

"I think we punched above our weight. The youngsters really did well and I'm very proud of them, the management staff and everybody here really put hands and hearts to make this happen," he said.

"We are very happy and I believe next season we are going to do very well with the youngsters. They got their feet wet this season and did so well in coming this far so they will have that maturity coming into the next season."

Racing will close out their season with their remaining two fixtures against Humble Lions and Portmore United.
