Mount Pleasant Football Academy registered an impressive 4-0 win over newcomers Racing United in their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football match at the Montego Bay Sports Complex yesterday.

The game was delayed in the second half owing to a power outage.

Overwhelming favourites Mount Pleasant collected their first goal courtesy of Gadail Irving's free kick in the 23rd minute and Devonte Campbell doubled the lead at the 45th.

Racing United's task became doubly difficult as Romaine Bowers was given marching orders for a second bookable offence, barely after play resumed, in the 46th minute.

Mount Pleasant took full advantage and in the 72nd minute, Daniel Green scored from the penalty spot, before Shande James joined the scoring party in the 86th.

Racing United got a golden opportunity to bring his team back in the game when they were trailing 1-0, but Nickyle Ellis missed a penalty.

Mount Pleasant's head coach, Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore, was pleased with their finishing.

"I wouldn't say it was a comfortable win... We were clinical in front of goal, despite missing some opportunities," he said.

"We were a bit more direct and we created and took our chances."

The St Ann team, runners-up in the JPL last season, was recently eliminated from the Concacaf Caribbean Club Championship. Whitmore says this will redound to their benefit in the JPL.

"We have more time to focus now after the Concacaf elimination. It is an international break with a few days off to get players ready. We are not where we want to be, so we still have some work to do," he added.

Meanwhile, Paul Walker, coach of Racing United, said it was just a bad game for his new team.

"I think the four-nil defeat was because of the red card. However, the four goals scored on us were caused by our errors. I think it was just a bad day for us, and we have to just go back and focus on the next game. We have to just aim high and keep smart moving forward," Walker said.
