Lacovia’s coach predicts big things for Dockery
Lacovia High's coach Kamille Ennis thinks Sabrina Dockery will get better as the track and field season progresses, despite the excellent start by her athlete.
Dockery has provided excellent results in the 100 and 200 metres events this season, after picking up two silver medals at last year's ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletic Championships (Champs) in her first year in Class Two.
Last year, Dockery finished second in the 200 and 400 metres behind Hydel High's Shemonique Hazle and Jodyann Daley, respectively. Both Hazle and Daley beat her by a narrow margin.
Recently, at the Pure Water/JC/R, Danny Williams meet, Dockery won her heat in the Class Two Girls' 100 metres in 11.45 seconds to finish second overall behind Edwin Allen High School's Theianna Lee Terrelonge, who did 11.30.
Dockery followed up on Saturday at the JAAA/Puma/Fuller/Anderson meet, with a 24.08 seconds clocking, to win her 200 metres heat. Once again, only Terrelonge was faster, with 23.73 seconds. Dockery and Terrelonge are the fastest girls over the 100 and 200 metres this season.
"I expect good results this season for Sabrina in two events," said Ennis, still uncertain about which events her athlete will compete in at Champs in March.
"I am undecided about the 100/200 metres or the 200/400 metres double. I will decide as the season progresses," said Ennis, who stated that Dockery prefers the 100/200 metres double.
"For the future, I am preparing for the 400 metres, as I think this is her best event. She has a few flaws with her arms and going too much across her body, and she also tends to lean over a bit.
"I am working on these. Some body mechanics must be fixed," continued Ennis, who has been coaching Dockery for the past five years.
Dockery won the Under-18 girls' 400 metres at the National Junior Championships last year. She was selected as a member of the NACAC team that participated in the Under-18 and Under-23 Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica.
