Hydel Class Two girls to rule Champs
A Nail-biting finish is expected at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships on the girls' side this year.
Defending and nine-time champions Edwin Allen High School will be under pressure over the five days to hold on to their title as Hydel High and former champions St Jago High will be legitimate contenders to dethrone the champions.
Despite never winning the title, the Corey Bennett-coached team from Ferry has given the champions their toughest test over the past five years. This time around, it should not be different as with a close contest expected, with Hydel's powerful Class Two team set to lead the way.
STAR Sports projects that Hydel will dominate here and should score 96 points, 23 more than the defending champions, with sprinter Kerrica Hill leading the way. Hill looks set for double success in individual events in the 100m and 100m hurdles, and should play a key role in her team winning the 4x100m relay. She is the top sprinter here and after her fourth-place finish in the Under-20 100m at Carifta Trials in 11.59 seconds, she looks set to to go all the way, while she is a cinch for the sprint hurdle event.
Alana Reid looks set to contribute valuable points in both the 100 and 200 metres, while Shania Myers, in the long jump and 100m hurdles, Aliyah Baker in the 200m, and Natassia Burrell, in the shot put, should all play vital roles.
