‘Let him rot’ - Woman wants harshest punishment for uncle accused of rape

May 01, 2025

Jill* is unwavering in her belief that she has been living in a mental prison for the past 45 years.

The 55-year-old, whose complaint led to her 75-year-old uncle being charged with rape decades after he allegedly abused her, says, "For me, justice would be a long, hard prison sentence -- or even death."

Jill said she was 10 years old when she was first assaulted, allegedly by her uncle, who was 30 years old at the time. The woman's uncle was on Monday charged with three counts of rape in connection with allegations of sexual assault of her between 1980 and 1982 in St Elizabeth.

Reports are that the accused and the female were living at the same address where he allegedly sexually assaulted her on several occasions.

A court date has not yet been set.

Following the arrest of the elderly farmer, Jill told THE STAR that she is hopeful that justice will be served in the matter.

"I am still in prison and will always be prison for the rest of my life mentally. Every single day of my life I think about what my uncle did to me. Every day I asked my 10-year-old self why I didn't and run. I am hurting and I am angry," she said.

Jill's story was highlighted by this newspaper last December, shortly after she shared her alleged ordeal on social media.

"After the story came out in THE STAR and on social media, persons reached out to me from CISOCA (Centre for Sexual Offences and Child Abuse) and said that he could still be charged. It was the first time I knew what CISOCA was ... so when I heard, I came to Jamaica in January and made a report," she said.
