‘It’s in my nature to help others’ - St Catherine senior takes care of elderly amputee
Salvador White has an indestructible passion for helping others. The 86-year-old said that there is no time limit placed on his willingness to help someone in need. The Time and Patience, St Catherine, resident has been tending to the needs of his neighbour, Roy Sinclair, who lost his leg due to diabetes, for four years.
"I have been helping people all my life and I don't have no reason for helping people, it's in my nature to help others," White told THE WEEKEND STAR "
Sinclair, 76, said that since he lost his leg, "Every day him carry food come give me. From it touch 3'o clock going up to 5'o clock, me sure a me dinner. I don't have to fret about it. Me can look out fi him."
"Not only food alone, if me beg him money, him make sure say him give me. He is like a father to me, me can depend pon dat man," said Sinclair, the father of two children, ages 16 and 18.
Loyal man
"Me nuh worry bout nuttin because is a man wah loyal, me can take off my cap off my head an bet it say yes, he is going to help," Sinclair told THE WEEKEND STAR. "Up to yesterday, him come here and me tell him me bruk and him tek out money give me."
White, who lived and worked in England for sometime before returning to Jamaica, sustains himself from his pension. "It is with that money I help Roy and if anybody comes at the gate and it's possible, I try to help them out the same way," he said
"Giving don't come as any problem to me, enuh. Anyone that I see in need I help them because there is another lady around the lane there and I still give her dinner on a Friday, not as regular as Roy, but I try," he said
