Snail facials not for everyone
Some say beauty is pain, but now, apparently it's slimy too with the new snail facial that's on the market. The slimy snail mucus is said to aid human skin by hydrating it, preventing aging and improving wrinkles and scars.
Having snails crawl all over your face is a discomfort many are willing to endure to achieve glowing skin, including Jamaican lifestyle YouTuber, Persia.
"I would definitely want to try it. I hear it has so many benefits for your skin," she told THE STAR.
But for 24-year-old skincare enthusiast Cherine, just the thought of having snails crawling on her face makes her shudder.
"That is just nasty!, I don't care about the benefits," she said.
New craze
Meanwhile, Marcelin O'Connor, owner of Blends Skin Care, said she is aware of the new craze with the snail facial but knows better than to offer this to her Jamaican customers.
"I wouldn't do it because I would be afraid to hold it, and afraid to put in on anybody's face," she said.
Instead, she offers them an alternative, a mask that she says can be equally gross, but just as effective.
"It's a very thin mask that comes with the snail slime. It's very effective for the eye area," she said. "I will use it broken down in that form, but not the literal snails crawling all over your face."
O'Connor told THE STAR that although customers are normally hesitant to try the snail mask, they get hooked after seeing the results.
"When the clients come and they're in their 30s and 40s and they have real puffy eyes and wrinkles and lots of lines under the eye, then I will use the snail mask," she said. "They will ask for it whenever they are making their appointments because they really love it."
