Delroy Patrick, the St Elizabeth man who was seen on video fighting a police officer, has since been charged with various offences.

The four-minute video, which has been making its rounds on social media, sees Patrick vigorously fighting off a policeman, and hurling insults at him.

Senior superintendent in charge of the St Elizabeth police division, Samuel Morgan, said that Patrick, also called 'Carrot' of Treasure Beach in the parish, got into an argument with a police officer after he was stopped for a traffic violation in Black River last Saturday.

"The police were in the process of prosecuting him for traffic violations, and he began to hurl abuse at the police. The police decided to arrest him, and he assaulted the police in an effort to prevent them from arresting him; he was eventually arrested," he said "He has been prosecuted for the traffic breach, no seat belt, being abusive to the police, for resisting arrest, and assaulting the police. He's slated to go to court later this week in the Black River Resident Magistrate's court."

He said Patrick, who is a robot taxi operator in the town, had a history of frequent run-ins with the law.

But Morgan was quick to point out that those incidents were few and far between in St Elizabeth.

"He doesn't represent the behaviour of the citizens of St Elizabeth. The people of St Elizabeth are law-abiding people," he said.
