Wanted: 4 Barbers
"Hair today, gone tomorrow," says the barber. There are highly skilled men (and women) who take 'shear' pleasure in assisting males to look their absolute best on a daily basis.
This week, THE STAR has yet again sought to make linkages between employers to employees in its Jobs to Go feature.
Following a search of The Gleaner Classifieds for job postings, our news team reached out to a Half-Way Tree, St Andrew-based male administrator who called four barbers to fill vacancies at newly established barber shop.
"Well, it's a barber shop," the administrator, who asked not to be identified, began. "A Christian-based one."
By profession, a barber is typically someone who is versed in analysing a patron's hair in juxtaposition to his facial features in order to best determine and recommend a style that may be the right fit. Or he may need to be just a good listener who can provide the client with the desired cut. The proprietor told THE STAR that he simply wants barbers that are qualified in the realm.
"They should be certified barbers," he explained. "I am not too sure of the process for them to get certified, but you know that it is a requirement."
Apparently, a genteel conversationalist is already a shoe-in.
"They should have great interpersonal skills and be respectful and kind," the administrator said. "That is important because when someone comes in, they need to be personable. Especially inside a barber shop, they need to have discussions."
The business operator added that the establishment is "a Christian company" and so prefers to have persons who are mindful of same.
"We don't really go for the bad language, foul language, or that kind of thing," he said. "We want people to be clean. They should be wholesome."
Last, our news team was informed that experience and "the quality of a person's work speaks for itself".
