Dancehall artiste Govana is often likened to powerhouse entertainer Aidonia for his commanding style and lyrical prowess - but for 'Govi-Govi', the comparison hits deeper. It's a proud full-circle moment that traces back to the very start of his journey.

"Mi feel honoured to be mentioned with the name of a Aidonia because [he's] one of the main reason I'm here right now, in terms of being an artiste and getting the break," Govana told THE WEEKEND STAR.

The entertainer burst onto the scene in 2013 with the breakout single Gyal Clown and hasn't looked back since. In 2018, he dropped his debut album Humans and Monsters Are Not The Same (HAMANTS), marking a major milestone in his career. Since then, the 4th Genna artiste has been on a steady rise, cementing his place in dancehall.

The versatile dancehall artiste recently dropped his second album, Legacy -- a 12-track tribute to his roots that highlights his dedication to creating a lasting impact for both his family and fans.

Govana told THE WEEKEND STAR that he owes much to Aidonia for what he has been able to accomplish in music.

"A him bring mi pon stage and swear pon him career seh mi a guh dweet, and mi a guh come done di place," 'Govi-Govi' said.

While the comparisons keep rolling in, the Champ deejay insists there is only one Aidonia - a performer whose consistency and greatness have earned him legendary status.

"[Aidonia] a one addi best mi eva see ever touch a stage and not because a mi friend and musical brother, but yuh just can't downplay longevity, he said.

The dancehall titan Aidonia is celebrating 20 years in music, a feat he credits not only hard and smart work for his longevity, but also a careful formula for his staying power.

Govana, who has watched Aidonia's rise with admiration, is hoping to be just as impactful as he sets about cementing his legacy as a dancehall great.

"Me know mi a guh duh 20 years [in music] but I hope it's as great as Aidonia's 20 years. If it's greater, I know I'm gonna be one of the legends of this industry. Suh if people are saying that, it means I'm doing something great, and big up to Aidonia," Govana said.
