Over one thousand pounds of ganja seized in St Mary

July 14, 2025

More than 1,000 pounds of compressed ganja were seized during a police operation in Rio Nuevo, St Mary, on July 12.

The operation, which was led by the Firearm and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) in coordination with the Port Maria police, began around 10:00 p.m., and was based on intelligence received by law enforcement.

During the operation, officers discovered a Nissan Caravan motor vehicle, which was searched. Inside, they found thirty-seven bags of compressed ganja and four large barrels of gasoline. The ganja has an estimated weight of 1,200 pounds.

No arrests were made in connection with the seizure, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The police believe the seizure may be linked to the illicit drug trade and are urging anyone with information that may assist their investigation to contact the nearest police station or Crime Stop.

This latest seizure forms part of the ongoing effort by the FNID and other branches of the Jamaica Constabulary Force to disrupt the trafficking of illegal drugs across the island.
