Dee Official turns ‘dark moment’ into viral song
What was meant to be a "dark" and painful moment for social media personality and recording artiste Dee Official has turned into a controversial but viral "happy song."
Speaking with THE WEEKEND STAR, Dee Official, who has been honing her musical talent for the past four years, explained that the new track, titled 1 By 1, was never intended to be a song.
"I was on my [TikTok] Live and I was responding to [individuals]. I was cursing dem back and then someone on my live recorded it and put my voice on a riddim, suh dat's how di song came about," she revealed.
Capitalising on that composed chorus, she then inserted two complete verses and shot and released a full music video for the single which had the Internet in a frenzy.
"A lot of persons are focusing on the song as a gimmicks or funny song or supm to cheer people up, which it does, but this song is coming from a very dark place," Dee Official said.
"It's coming from me trying to defend myself from people who I was not supposed to be defending myself from in the first place. So, realistically, it wasn't a happy song, but that's what it turned into," she said.
Dee Official said she feels "blessed" to have fans who "gave me a positive outlook on the situation because that in itself is a win".
The recently released single has been a hit on social media platforms TikTok and the YouTube. Fans have praised Dee Official for turning adversity into empowerment, commending her for "using her lemons to make lemonade."
"The feedback has been good - everybody knows di song, all babies [because] the song works for everybody," she said, comparing the song's meteoric rise to the 2011 Clifton 'Cliff-Twang' Brown hit Nobody Canna Cross It.
Despite grappling with emotional scars, betrayal, and disappointment, Dee Official uses her music to inspire other women, sharing her experience in hopes that they will "make better choices."
"Things are gonna happen in life that you can't control but you can control how you respond to them and the aftermath of what happened. But in my case, it worked out for the best because now I'm in a better position. So sometimes when certain things happen in life and wi feel like addi worse thing, it's the best thing because this is how God show you that you can elevate and make it without some people," she said
"Some people are just in your life as stepping stones to what you need to get and where you need to go. So just be you, be true to yourself and be genuine because at the end of the day the people that need to see it, will see it," she added.
