Delta Bennett returns with ‘Come Ova’
Delta Bennett's voice steered house classics Inna De Ghetto and Whine Up Yuh Body to the top of the Billboard Dance Music charts in the 1990s.
Four years ago, Colombian singer J Balvin sampled Inna De Ghetto on his hit song Inna Da Getto, which has been certified multi-platinum in several Spanish markets. J Balvin would later perform the song at the 64th Grammy Awards in 2022, with Bennett's vocals blaring throughout the performance.
"That was one of the highest points in my career when international artiste J Balvin sampled Inna De Ghetto, a song that I recorded several years ago. It was a moment that showed just how far my sound had travelled, and I am grateful for what that song has done for me," said Bennett.
Bennett is originally from Sligoville in St Catherine. When she recorded Inna De Ghetto for house music producer David Morales' Bad Yard Club project, Bennett had no idea how much of a life changer the opportunity would have been for her.
"That opportunity came through (noted Jamaican music figure) Handel Tucker during a visit to my home, where I recorded a single track that ended up opening doors and uniting people from different cultures through music," Bennett explained.
Now residing in the United States, Bennett released her most recent single Come Ova late last year. She produced the track which tackles matters of the heart.
"The song is about that feeling when you miss your lover - he's always busy, and the distance starts to build tension. It's that moment where you just want to say, 'Drop the business for a second ... and come over'. It's longing, desire, and real emotion all in one," she stated.
