Sixty-nine-year-old labourer Wellesly Sinclair, otherwise known as 'Pirate' of Three Miles River, Frome, Westmoreland, has been charged with 'wounding with intent following an incident in his community on June 30.

Reports from the Frome police are that at 5:15 p.m., Sinclair brandished a knife and held it at a man's throat during an argument at a bar in the area. The man managed to escape his hold with only a cut to his arm and ran from the bar. After the man got away from him, Sinclair pulled a machete from his motorcycle, pursued the man and inflicted chop wounds to his head and neck.

A team of lawmen on patrol in the area witnessed the brawl and intervened. Sinclair managed to escape, and the injured man was assisted to hospital, where he was treated and admitted. Sinclair turned himself in to the police on Tuesday and was charged after a statement implicating him was recorded. He is scheduled to appear before the court on August 5.
