Cops tight-lipped about massive gun find

May 29, 2025

Police were up to last night tight-lipped as investigators navigate what they describe as a "delicate" stage in a high-stakes probe into the suspected discovery of a massive cache of illegal firearms in Kingston.

Sources have indicated that more than 200 weapons were found hidden inside an industrial-sized water heater at a warehouse in Kingston . If confirmed, the seizure would mark the largest gun bust of 2025. Despite growing public interest, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has yet to officially confirm key details, including the number of firearms recovered, the date of the operation, or the suspected country of origin--though law enforcement sources suggest the shipment may have come from the United States of America.

Acting Senior Superintendent Patrae Rowe, head of the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID), told THE STAR it was "premature" to speak on the matter.

"We are at a delicate state of the investigation," he said.

In February, personnel from the FNID and the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) found 66 guns and more than 4,500 rounds of ammunition in two barrels at Kingston Wharves. Then in March, another joint operation between the FNID and the JCA resulted in the successful seizure of 30 firearms and more than 100 rounds of ammunition at a warehouse on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston.
