LA Lewis offers $1 million for info on cop’s murder

Outraged by the murder of Jamaica Constabulary Force Corporal Kamal Mayne last Saturday, LA Lewis said he is offering $1 million to anyone with information leading to the arrest and charge of the triggerman/men.

"If we make a crime like this get away, criminal ago feel say it is okay to go to police yard and go shoot dem and that is why yuh see mi put out the $1 million reward fi anyone who can turn in the criminal. Mi nuh want dem gunman ya feel it's okay and we need to hunt down these criminals. Just imagine a police risk him life for the country and then him gone home inna di night or morning and think yuh reach safe haven, and as you reach a yuh yard, a bwoy come shoot yuh kill yuh," LA Lewis said.

Mayne, a 20-year veteran, was killed just footsteps away from his house in Claremont Drive, Old Harbour, St Catherine. According to initial reports, Mayne had completed his shift and was alighting from his vehicle at his gate when he was ambushed and shot. The cop was discovered laying near his car about 5:30 a.m. by a passerby, who then alerted the police. Mayne was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

"The police are protecting the people but who is protecting the police? I want the entire Jamaica to come behind this because no matter what, we need the police. Mi nuh say one and two corrupt cops nuh deh a road, but over 90 per cent of our force is good and dem do dem work and get likkle bit a money," LA Lewis said.

The entertainer said he was moved to tears when he heard of Mayne's murder, referring to the late lawman as his brethren.

"Mayne a good, good youth and from I know him over the years, I have never seen or heard him kick off with anyone. He was one of the good ones who was doing police work. When I heard the news say him dead, a cry mi cry eno. All a this make mi feel a way man. Over 15 years now mi know Mayne and a him put the 'g' inna good. So mi a beg Jamaica to just do the right ting and make we find him killers ," he said.

"Our police dem already not getting good pay. A lot of them live far eno and dem just a work basically for gas money, but man like Mayne really love his job so he would go out every day," he added.
