July 21, 2025

Seaforth High School from St Thomas emerged victorious in the highly competitive European Union (EU) and Universal Service Fund (USF) Short Video Competition.

The grand prize is an all-expenses-paid educational trip to Brussels, Belgium, where the students will visit the Jamaican embassy and the European Union (EU) headquarters. They will also enjoy three days of cultural exploration aimed at broadening their educational experiences.

Seaforth High, which comprises teacher and competition adviser, Terron Strachan, and students Matthew-Rae Edmondson, Llyana Copeland, Shakira Robinson, and Obrien Rose, outshone tough rivals on their way to being announced winners at the exciting finale, which took place last Tuesday at the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) Auditorium.

Old Harbour High secured second place, and St Hilda's Diocesan High, awarded third place.

Since its launch in February 2025, the competition has challenged ICT clubs from across Jamaica to create powerful three-minute videos spotlighting how technology is reshaping education and future careers.

Seaforth High's winning entry, titled 'Reimagining Education: The Virtual Reality Journey from Classroom to Career', impressed the judges by illustrating how virtual reality can transform learning in fields like medicine and engineering through immersive simulation training. The video highlighted the essential role of digital innovation in making education more engaging and aligned with the demands of tomorrow's job market.

The excitement and hard work behind Seaforth's success were palpable, as team lead Obrien Rose expressed his joy at the accomplishment: "It's a feeling that I can't explain - it's a mix of joy, pleasure, and overwhelming emotion. We faced many challenges, but we persevered and emerged victorious."

Reflecting the dedication and commitment of the team, Strachan said, "The experience has been amazing - late nights spent perfecting their vision and guiding them toward their storytelling goals."
