The IndependentÌýCommissionÌýofÌýInvestigations isÌýprobing an incident in which a man was gunned down in an alleged shootout with the police inÌýSpanish TownÌýon Thursday.

Dead is Anthony Kemar Richards, 38, otherwise called 'Ganja'Ìýof 38 March Pen Road, St Catherine.

Reports say that about 5:30 a.m., the police were conducting aÌýcordoned and search operation in the area.ÌýRichards approached the police and allegedly pulled a handgun and opened fire.

The police took evasive action and returned fire, hitting Richards.Ìý

Police say A nineÌýmillimetreÌýpistol affixed withÌýaÌýmagazineÌýcontainingÌýone round of ammunition was seized.

Richards was assisted to hospital where he was pronounced dead.Ìý
