Students at Petersfield Primary and Infant School in Westmoreland are set to benefit from a playground, which is being installed to assist in their development and well-being.

Work on the US$25,000 project received significant support last week as parents and teachers joined hands and heart to make the new playground a reality. The efforts are being spearheaded by the Joseph and Vera Douglas Family Foundation.

In addition to providing labour for the construction of the playground, the volunteers, which included Custos Hartley Perrin, painted the school's exterior walls and spruced up the school's garden.

Rachel Barrett-Dolcine, founder of the Joseph and Vera Douglas Family Foundation, said she is a past student of the institution. Her grandmother and mother also attended the school.

"It was crucial for me, as a legacy project, to create a space for the kids to play," Barrett-Dolcine said about the decision to invest in the playground.

The Joseph and Vera Douglas Family Foundation, was established eight years in partnership, has partnered with the Lasco Chin Foundation on the project.

"I am really passionate about children and their learning environment," Barrett-Dolcine said.
