Unruly group hosts pool party while owners away
After the numerous advisories issued by the Government urging persons to practise social distancing and to remain indoors to contain the spread of COVID 19, some persons not only disregarded the rules but did it on private property.
After Angella Eastwick left her residence in Negril, Westmoreland, last Friday, a group of persons snuck on to her property and held a pool party.
"My family and I went out for about two hours to run a couple of errands, and we came back to strangers having a big pool party in our pool. Our property is a guest house with a pool and a bar. So in normal times it's open to the public and people, but it has since been closed due to the virus," she said.
Eastwick told THE STAR that the group of more than 20 persons basked in the pool and explored her property.
"There were a lot of kids, and I'm assuming the other people were their parents. It was probably the most bizarre thing I've ever experienced, because as we know everywhere is closed. We are not allowed to be having these kinds of gatherings," she said.
Family's swimming gear
The trespassers even clothed themselves in the family's swimming gear.
"Some came with their bathing suits, bath hats, and I'm assuming they had their towels and stuff, but then others helped themselves to stuff that was in our pool house, like the life jackets and floats, where I keep my kids' stuff," she said.
The group apparently gained access to the property by forcing themselves through an opening at the back of the premises.
"I got angry because nobody let them on to our property. I don't even know who these people are. A global crisis going on and there is a lot of people getting sick and dying and they were on our property. I haven't done anything to these people for them to be putting my family at risk by possibly contaminating the property. We have no idea where they came from," she said.
She added, "The property is not visible. You have to come out of your way to come on to this property, so now I'm thinking about tightening the security because I'm scared."
Eastwick reported the incident to the police because she felt violated.
"Especially because of the lack of concern for health safety reasons that we all need to be abiding by right now. The police drove up and were ready to take them out but they already left, so they said if they come back we should call," she said.
