The Ministry of National Security is adamant that the security forces will maintain their presence in Montego Bay and surrounding communities in the wake of the spate of murders in the second city.

On Thursday, the parish was a picture of chaos as gunmen went on a shooting spree, killing at least four persons and injuring several others. A curfew was later imposed in Glendevon, St James, and it should come to an end by 6 p.m. today.

The police yesterday captured the primary suspect and two other suspects, and the vehicle that was allegedly used in some of yesterday's attacks was also seized.

Following this disclosure, the Minister of National Security Robert Montague congratulated the security forces for the capturing the suspects.

The minister also announced in a press release yesterday that the National Reserve was called in to boost the security presence in the city.

"We did not come to this place overnight, but we will recover our public spaces. But as a nation we must redouble our efforts to correct some of the social and economic shortcomings if we are to once and for all permanently deal with crime and violence in this nation," Montague said.

He also said that calm has been restored to the area.

Meanwhile, Montague has called on residents to cooperate with security forces, who "have been adequately briefed on how to conduct themselves at the highest level of professionalism when engaging with citizens."
