Reggae Boy Michail Antonio is mourning the death of his mother Cislyn who has died after battling a long-term illness.

Antonio shared the news via Instagram on Sunday.

"Hello mum, it's your baby boy here. Your time in this world has come to an end. The last five years it's been difficult seeing you sat in bed and not being able to walk. But nothing could ever prepare me for you leaving me," he posted on his story.

Although mourning her death, Antonio shared that he is grateful that his mother is no longer restricted by her illness.

"It hurts, you not being here, but at least you are no longer in pain, and you're no longer restricted to a bed, and you can see us all now, you're free now," Antonio said to close out the post.

Antonio often mentioned how his mother encouraged him to balance his football career with his education.

His mother's death comes just weeks after returning to the field after a horrific car accident which caused him to be hospitalised for three weeks and then put through intensive physical therapy.

His supporters have since been sending their well wishes.

Antonio's contract with English Premier League club West Ham expired recently and he is now without a club. The 35-year-old has, however, returned to playing and played for Jamaica in the recent Concacaf Gold Cup when he came on as a substitute in a game against Guadeloupe.
