Jamaicans showing their hands early in Diamond League standings
SEVERAL Jamaican athletes have put their hands up early with strong performances in the 2025 Wanda Diamond League,
Paris Olympic Games triple jump silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts is currently in pole position in her event with eight points. This follows her win at the Doha meet, where she jumped 14.72m to defeat Olympic gold medallist Thea LaFond of Dominica.
Jamaican athletes are also well placed in the women's 100 metres with four in the top eight. Tia Clayton leads the Jamaican contingent in second place with eight points, following her world-leading time of 10.92 seconds in Doha. Shericka Jackson also has eight points and is in third place, after winning her season debut in Rabat in 11.04. Tina Clayton who placed second to her twin sister Tia in Doha, is in fourth with seven, while Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who placed fourth in Doha, sits in eighth on five. The overall leader in the event is Maia McCoy of Liberia with 10 points, after finishing third in Doha and second in Rabat.
Jackson is fifth in the women's 200m with seven points, following her second-place finish in Xiamen, China, with a time of 22.79. The winner, Anavia Battle of the United States, clocked 22.41 and leads the standings with 16 after two wins.
Danielle Williams is in second place in the women's 100m hurdles with 15 points, having earned a win and a second-place finish over two meets so far.
Hurdlers Andrenette Knight and Rushell Clayton are well placed in the women's 400m hurdles after the season's first Diamond League race in Rabat. Knight, who was second in a season's best 53.90, holds second place with seven points, while Clayton, who recorded a season's best 54.83 for fourth, is in fourth place overall with five. World champion Femke Bol of the Netherlands leads with eight points after winning in a meet record 52.46.
Natoya Goule-Toppin is the next best-placed Jamaican with nine points in the women's 800m, placing her fourth overall.
In the men's shot put, Olympic Games bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell is in second place with seven points, following a season's best throw of 21.95m at the Rabat Diamond League. He finished just behind the American Payton Otterdahl, who won with 21.97m.
In the men's 100m Kishane Thompson is seventh with seven points. The leader in the event is South Africa's Akani Simbine with 24.
Olympic bronze medallist Rasheed Broadbell is third in the 110m hurdles with 14 points, after a win and a third-place finish. His victory came in Doha with a season's best 13.14. The USA's Cordell Tinch leads the standings with 16 points.
Triple jumper Jordan Scott is also in second in his event with seven points after finishing second with a jump of 17.00m in Shaoxing, China.
Romaine Beckford sits in fourth in the men's high jump standings with nine points, following fourth and fifth-place finishes in Doha and Rabat, respectively.
Olympic long jump silver medallist Wayne Pinnock is also in fourth place in his event, having picked up five points for a fourth-place finish in Rabat.
