Hydel girls shine at Purewater R Danny Williams meet

Hydel Girls delivered outstanding performances in the field events at the Purewater R. Danny Williams Jamaica College (JC) throwing meet at the Ashenheim Stadium, finishing with the most wins.

The meet, which started on Friday, saw Natassai Burrell picking up a double, securing her first win on Friday with a personal best of 45.93 metres to capture the girls Class One discus. It was a one-two finish for her team as Shanangelo Zandria Williams, formerly of Denbigh High, finished second with a personal best 42.10 metres. Sage Cruickshank of Convent Mercy Alpha placed third with a mark of 38.35m.

Burrell returned on Saturday to capture the javelin Open with a winning distance of 39.70m.. Rihanna Lewis of Camperdown High was second with 27.63m, while Hydel's Williams claimed her second top-three finish of the meet, placing third with a mark of 21.60m.

Hydel also triumphed in the Class Three discus, where Shantal Ferguson took first with a throw of 27.50m.. Tashanti Fearon of Alpha placed second with 26.40m, and Tashney Golding of Merle Grove High finished third with 25.84m.

Hydel continued their success in the Class Two high jump and the triple jump Open events to close out an excellent meet.

In the high jump, they recorded another one-two finish, with Zavian Bernard clearing 1.65m to win ahead of Jada Jones, who cleared 1.55m, the same height as third-place finisher Mikayala Lagner of Holmwood Technical.

Sabrina Atkinson delivered Hydel's second win in the pit, capturing the girl's Open triple jump with a personal best and meet record 12.20m. Bernard was second with 11.81m, while Cheyenne Cooper of William Knibb secured third with 10.86m.

Other notable winners in the female field events included Merle Grove High's Abigail Bennett, Wolmer's Danielle Noble and St Catherine High's Able Mills.

Bennett won the Class Two discus with a personal best 43.69m, relegating Hydel's Brandana Malcom (38.33m) and Aisha Marie Williams (32.40m) to second and third, respectively.

Noble claimed the Class One high jump, soaring to 1.75m to equal her personal best. Shanniqua Williams of St Andrew High finished second with the same height, while Deijanae Bruce of Edwin Allen was third with 1.65m.

Mills delivered a strong performance in the Class One shot put, winning with a personal best 14.62m. Clarendon College's Maria Kay Lampart was second with 14.23m, while Hydel's Burrell finished third with 12.68m, marking her third top-three finish of the meet.

MALE PERFORMANCES

Hosts Jamaica College (JC) made their mark among the boys with victories in the Class One discus and triple jump, scoring one-two finishes in both events.

Joseph Solomon dominated the Class One discus, achieving a personal best 58.56m for the win, with Matthew Blake second with 51.58m. Delano Smith of Calabar High School placed third with a personal best 48.90m.

Chavez Penn established himself as a favourite for Champs in the Class One triple jump, winning with a meet record and personal best 15.56m. JC's J'Aier Edahj Sean Cato, a St Vincentian, took second with 14.83m, while David Douglas of Wolmer's Boys' was third with 13.68m.

Kingston College's Alexander Betancourt, from Cuba, captured the javelin with a winning distance of 57.38m. JC's Jayvoni Neckles was second with 56.93m, while Tarique Daley of Calabar claimed third with 53.96m.

Wolmer's Edward Sterling also emerged victorious, winning the boys' Class One long jump with a 7.12m leap, finishing ahead of teammate Nicho Gray Clarke (7.06m).
