One of the new upcoming entertainers in the dancehall scene Rohan Reid, aka Young Wild Apachie, has taken a different approach towards violence in the inner city by starting a youth programme and organising a football tournament called 'Memorial Cup' in memory of the people who have lost their lives due to violence in the community of Cockburn Pen, near the Three Miles area.

He is also building awareness and raising funds to help families in need in the communities affected, in his own words "Mi nuh want the youth them believe the only thing them can look forward to in life is badness cause is either jailhouse or funeral home you ago end up, so mi have to give them hope and show them that there is much more to life than that".

He has also forged an alliance with Hagley Seventh-day Adventist Church. The church permits the use of their playing field for the playing of the competition on Sundays, and they have even entered a team in the competition as well.

Pastor Omar Oliphant, senior pastor Hagley Park District of Seventh-day Adventist Churches had this to say: "Sport plays an integral role for the physical health and social well-being of our youths. Having the youth engaged helps in building good sportsmanship, healthy relations with community members as they are activated towards team building."

He added: "We have seen first-hand how sports create an avenue for exposure, expression and empowerment. Exposure to social ideals leads them to focus on working together with others to accomplish the team goals. This is giving purpose and fulfilment to the youth."

For the safety of patrons, people are encouraged to wear a mask and to practise social distancing.

Recently, the competition had its mid-season final where Law Family came out on top 5-4 on penalties over Chester Avenue, after both teams ended 0-0 in regulation time. Earlier in the day, Chester Avenue defeated Pump Scheme Gunners 4-3 on penalties, while Law Family clipped Hagley Park Seventh-day Adventist 1-0.

Meanwhile, Young Wild Apache's venture into the dancehall market is slated to take a major boost this upcoming season due to new deals and projects scheduled to come on board soon. The debut single from his upcoming EP (extended play record) Right Now (Don with the Plan) produced by Yard Hype Entertainment & Hell Block thugs, which will be followed up by tracks produced by the likes of Skatta Burrell, Kunley and Cecile of Bad Company/Downsound Entertainment and many more local producers.
