US couple celebrates anniversary at Sumfest bash
The lawns of the Catherine Hall Sports Complex were graced with patrons from all walks of life at the annual Reggae Sumfest Street Dance on Monday night.
While just an exciting experience for some, David and Heather Johnson were celebrating 25 years of marital bliss.
"We got married here 25 years ago in Negril, so we are back here celebrating our anniversary in Montego Bay," Heather told THE STAR.
"Jamaica has a special place in our hearts," added Heather.
The Pennsylvanian couple was dressed in matching outfits to show off their special celebration.
Rocking to the sweet music by the DJs on stage, David said Jamaica is the place to be.
"Jamaica has the best people in the world," declared David. "We have been to many places, but this is by far the nicest. We couldn't think of anywhere else," added David, who echoed his wife's views.
Patrons came from the United States of America, the United Kingdom (UK), and the Caribbean.
Visiting Jamaica 12 times and celebrating her 60th birthday, UK's Hellen Smith said she had to be in Jamaica.
"I really wanted to come here and enjoy my birthday celebration with my friends. I didn't want to be in the UK to celebrate it," said Smith, who has been here for a week visiting sections of the island.
Some of Jamaica's hottest selectors, which included DJ Liquid, DJ Johnny Kool, Bishop Escobar, Tom and Ravers and Trippple X turned up the heat with some of the hottest local and international tunes.
The humid atmosphere was not enough to suffocate the spirits of the magnificent turnout who vibed during the event.
Patrons were just happy to be present and couldn't get enough of a piece of what was left of their vacation or staycation.
With anticipation high as Vybz Kartel is to be crowned as King of Dancehall on Friday, Spanish natives Maria Sans, Lara Peman and Irati Argoitia said they came specifically to see his performance.
"Of course, I came to see Vybz Kartel, I love his music. It is my first time coming to Jamaica, I can't wait for Friday," Sans beamed with excitement.
One patron said she came to see dancehall artiste Teejay, who is not on the line-up this year, while others came for all the artistes.
