Police probe robbery at Western Union outlet in Rock Hall
Police and crime scene investigators are probing a robbery following an overnight break-in at a Western Union outlet in Rock Hall, St Andrew, which also operates as a Fesco Gas Station.
The incident was discovered early Monday morning when a member of staff arrived to find the establishment had been broken into.
"I got a call minutes to seven this morning that someone turned up and found the place was broken into, so it must have been overnight because they are not open that early," a resident of the area told The STAR.
Investigators say the robbers gained entry by smashing the glass door at the entrance. Preliminary reports indicate that more than $4.5 million was stolen from the location.
The St Andrew North Police Division, which is leading the investigation, has recorded a 200 per cent increase in break-ins since the start of the year.
According to police statistics, 75 break-ins have been reported as of July 12, compared to 25 during the same period last year a jump of 50 additional incidents.
