Lamborghini on a leash! - Dog owner takes elite breed to market

When it comes to dogs, Halington Warmington doesn't just think luxury - he thinks Lamborghini.

The proud owner of Classic Kennel in St Thomas describes his prized American Bullies as the "Lamborghini of the dog world," an elite collection reserved only for those who truly understand their value.

But owning one of this four-legged luxury does not come cheap. Dog lovers hoping to claim a Classic Kennel pup will need to shell out between $300,000 to $500,000.

"These dogs are in demand but you won't just see anyone walking with them," Warmington said.

The American Bully is a modern breed developed as a companion dog and officially recognized in 2004 by the American Bully Kennel Club. According to Warmington, the local scene is still growing - and he is happy to be among the breeders.

"These are some very expensive dogs to begin with. Overseas these dogs are valued between US$4,000 (approximately J$630,000) to US$20,000 (approximately J$3,150,000)," he shared.

"These dogs are premium animals, and you know when people have bike and the bikers have their clubs and they have these specific people who are interested in the game, this is the same thing that happens with this breed of dogs. But what happen is, that you don't find a lot of people who is willing to invest as much as I do in this type of business," he said.

A lifelong dog enthusiast, Warmington says his passion started in childhood and evolved into the elite kennel operation he runs today.

"This is just my hobby enuh, because from I was a little boy mi always love dogs like that but I am an extremist. I always like to go for something that is different from the norm and I got to find out that the American Bullies are like that. The look of these dogs are something that you have never seen before," he said.

Their appearance, he explained, is part of their powerful appeal.

"They are shorter and thicker and more like a hog but instead of being round and fat, they are muscular and short and thick. They have some huge head and they have this vicious look but they are actually gentle. Their looks will keep people off and they can be used as guard dogs or pets with training," Warmington said.
