When some residents of Cupits district, Clarendon, heard scuffling and tumbling at the home of a neighbour in the wee hours of yesterday morning, no one immediately went to investigate.

However, minutes later, when smoke was seen coming from the dwelling, what they saw was unexpected. The body of one of the occupants, 33-year-old Shashane Williams, was discovered bleeding from the neck. According to a report from the Constabulary Communications Network, about 12:10 a.m. Williams and her partner had a physical altercation in which the man slashed her throat and set the house ablaze. Residents removed Williams' body from the house and the police were summoned. The suspect surrendered to the police at the scene. The man, who also had a slash to his throat, was taken to the hospital and is in the custody of the police. One of Williams' relatives described the scene as gruesome.

"When we hear the news and come on the scene, we wonder what the man used and cut her throat because it sharp. A one evil act eno," the relative said.

"Dem a fight and Shashane daughter try intervene and is like him box her, so she go through the door and Shashane a try go through the door too and him draw her back and kill har. Before him light the house, him throw dem baby that is about two-year-old through the window. Mi never hear dem argue before so mi don't know what coulda happen," the person alleged.

Sources also told THE STAR that after the suspect left the house, he went to a pastor's house where he allegedly made a confession before stating that he was going to hand himself over to the police.

"Him never give the police any trouble or anything, him just go back to the crime scene and go to the police. Mi don't know what could a cause the argument and why it had to end like this. A just couple years now dem married and dem get a baby. What coulda happen, I don't know," the source said.
