Desperate mother hopes for fresh start

A single mother of four, who admits that financial struggles forced her to sleep with multiple partners just to generate some income, is desperate to change her life.
She longs for meaningful employment so as to set a foundation for her children.
"If me get a work, me would love that, or even to get help to start a hairdressing shop. Me can do hair so me would really want to do something in that field, a even me do me hair sometime because me nuh have the money," she said.
She said that she has tried numerous avenues of employment but none were fruitful. But she is adamant she wants a different life.
"Me tired of it though because me nuh wah catch nothing and times serious," she said. "I never wanted to do this but me do it because me nuh want me children them go bed hungry. That is why sometime me have to get belly (pregnant) too because me afi go with that man and then another one."
Sleep on A piece of sponge
The St Thomas resident says she is now living in a deplorable condition and she longs for somewhere more suitable.
"Right now a piece a sponge me have to a sleep pon wid me children and sometimes me back hurt me. The house have plyboard floor and the bottom rotten; a bare hole in it. When me a walk, me have to a play hopscotch because me have to a pick and choose where to walk," she told THE WEEKEND STAR.
Literally having to watch her step is just the tip of the iceberg; the place is also infested by rats.
"Sometime if you see some rat in yah, some big ole rat a come up through the bottom of the house. Even sometime me set rat poison and it eat off and the rat dem nah dead," she said. "Me fraid because them deh rat deh will bite up me pickney them."
She wants to build the ideal home for her children, ages 14, nine, seven and two, but she has no help from their fathers.
"Right now me a look pon all the door. A big hole in a it. Me a see right through. So me would want to get a place to live," she said. "Me just happy say the school weh the pickney dem go a walk dem walk, so me just make little food and make them bring it. And sometime them get free lunch a school so me thank God for that. I know my life can be different but me just need help to start fresh."
