The nation was rocked to the core when the body of eight-year-old Shante Skyers was found in her community in Sterling Castle, St Andrew, in April. This was just one of many disturbing instances where missing children have been found dead.

Bishop Rowan Edwards, a prominent minister of religion in Spanish Town, St Catherine, believes that these children are being taken for satanic rituals.

Edwards told THE STAR that many persons are trying to invoke spirits, and they are performing rituals for protection and prosperity. This, he said, is leading to human sacrifices.

"Is not only entertainers that are doing these things (wearing guard rings). Politicians, police, people who are business people do it to protect themselves," he said.

PLEASING SPIRITS

Based on the state the children's bodies are being found in, Edwards said that it is the work of people who need to please the spirits that they ask to guard them.

"Like how people sacrifice animals, they are also sacrificing human beings as a way to be prosperous. That's why children are missing, and a lot of things are happening that is dangerous. The occult world is taking over Jamaica. Some of the wicked gunmen doing the same thing. Before they do certain things, they go to certain people, and that is why killings can't stop. This is beyond the police. Witches are involved in some of these heinous killings that are happening in this place," he said, adding that he has ventured into communities that are filled with balm yards, where he believes people are invoking spirits.

Edwards is convinced that like in the olden days, people are being cursed because they turn to evil spirits for prosperity, instead of looking to God.

"It is a thing that they think is working. God himself warned the people of Israel that if they practise this, then He is going to curse them. Their (Jamaicans) minds are being controlled because they think that if they don't do these things, they cannot prosper," he said.
