Etana, Kemar McGregor host charity event in August Town

June 20, 2025

Grammy-nominated reggae songstress Etana and acclaimed producer Kemar McGregor have successfully wrapped up their charity initiative, which brought joy, support, and entertainment to the heart of August Town.

The two-day event, which included a school giveaway and a community fun day, saw hundreds of residents and students from nearby communities benefiting from acts of kindness and an unforgettable concert experience. Last Friday, Etana and McGregor personally handed over televisions and tablets to students from Escarpment Road Basic School, Church of Christ Basic School, Christ the King Basic School, and August Town Primary School. The devices are expected to help bridge the digital gap for students who often struggle to access reliable online learning tools.

"This is where my heart is," Etana shared. "Giving back, especially to the youth, is something I'm deeply passionate about. Education is the key to breaking cycles, and even something as simple as a tablet can make a world of difference."

McGregor added, "This is not just charity, this is legacy. We want these children to see that they are valued and supported. We're planting seeds that we hope will grow into greatness."

The following day, August Town came alive with a vibrant community fun day that featured spirited football and netball matches, and plenty of activities for families. The highlight of the evening was the jam-packed concert that was free to the residents of August Town. Patrons were treated to spectacular performances from Etana, Beenie Man, Aidonia, Dwayne Stephenson, Turbulence, and August Town's very own rising star Tori-Lattore. The crowd sang, danced, and waved in jubilation as some of Jamaica's finest artistes delivered hit after hit in what many described as a "spiritual and cultural revival".

Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for St Andrew Eastern, Fayval Williams, was among the special guests who came out to celebrate the heartwarming treat hosted by reggae songstress Etana. Also in attendance was Patricia Sutherland of the People's National Party, demonstrating a shared spirit of unity and goodwill across party lines. Both women took time to engage with the children and community members.

There are conversations about making the event an annual affair.

"This is just the beginning," McGregor said. "August Town showed us love, and we'll keep showing up for them."
