Alkaline salutes late father in ‘Heart Scar’
Dancehall star Alkaline has paid tribute to his late father in a new song, 'Heart Scar'. The emotionally charged track, produced by long-time collaborator Charles 'Sponge Music' Williston, reveals a more introspective and vulnerable side of the usually fierce and guarded entertainer.
In Heart Scar, the deejay - whose given name is Earlan Bartley - bares his soul as he reflects on the pain of losing his father:
Still cyaa get ova di
Hurt me a deal wid
Cut Deep inna the soul a mi
A run through the millions dem
But it just don't feel the same
Alkaline lost his father, Earl Bartley, more popularly known as 'Rooster', in 2023. In the new track, he says time has not healed the wounds.
Years pass it nuh mek sense
Not even now
Stress confusion weh yuh leave we bro
Cyaa help but think bout the last time
Heavy pon we mind
Meanwhile, Williston, who has worked with Alkaline on tracks such as Real Dawgs, Nah Lef Eh Game, and Earn Your Way, spoke candidly about the artiste's musical prowess.
"Alkaline is a creative force in music and his talent is undeniable. He is always in great spirit, a very intelligent person so when he records it's always about events that everyone can relate to," Williston said.
Alkaline is getting ready to rock Jamaica next month with his New Rules concert at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Stadium on July 5.
