Popular disc jockey Bishop Escobar is gearing up for a fiery debut at Reggae Sumfest's iconic Street Dance, and he's promising nothing short of a cultural explosion.

"This will be my first time playing at Street Dance and it's a perfect match for me. The streets built Escobar and so 'anxious' is not even the word to describe how elated I am that I get to bring the vibes to the streets of Montego Bay," he said.

Set to unfold on Monday, July 14, at Catherine Hall Stadium in Montego Bay, the Street Dance will light up the city with the raw rhythm and unfiltered energy of Jamaica's dancehall culture. For Escobar, the stage is more than just a gig, it's personal.

"The monstrosity that is Reggae Sumfest shines through annually and captivates everyone with each event on the lineup. I am excited to bring my expertise to the table and add to what the festival has created. Dem gimme an event weh mi can be myself, and the vibes nah go normal in the streets. We ago give dem the authentic vibes, the Jamaican culture, and show them we're international," Escobar said.

As one of the most highly anticipated events in the week-long Reggae Sumfest experience, the Street Dance promises not just entertainment, but a bold celebration of Jamaica's rich musical legacy. This year's Street Dance is being billed as bigger, bolder, and more authentic than ever before. It's also known for blending street-style flair with next-level production.

According to Dealo Gordon, sponsorship and legal manager for Reggae Sumfest, this staging of the Street Dance will take things to a new level.

"Reggae Sumfest is about levelling up every single year and for 2025, we're tapping deeper into the roots of the culture, adding new layers of entertainment, and bringing in some of the most iconic sound systems and dancers," said Gordon.

"We're also enhancing the production with upgraded lighting and visuals to create an even more immersive experience. It's still the raw, authentic street vibe people love, but with an extra touch of Sumfest magic."

Last year's staging attracted thousands of patrons and lit up social media with iconic fashion moments and viral dance videos. But for the Reggae Sumfest team, it's not just about spectacle, it's about preserving and amplifying a legacy.

"Street Dance is where the heartbeat of Jamaican culture lives. It's where the sound system was born, where fashion trends were made, and where raw talent was first discovered. This event isn't just a party, it's a living cultural archive," Gordon said.

This year, the Reggae Sumfest team is also adding new attractions to inject even more excitement into the night. One of the newest features will be the adult game zone, a space that throws it back to classic Jamaican street corner culture with games like ludo and dominoes.

Patrons can also look forward to friendly competitions in eating and drinking, where winners will walk away with bragging rights and prizes from the event's many sponsors.

As the night unfolds under the stars, the soundtrack will be handled by an all-star lineup of selectors, including Trippple X, Johnny Kool, ZJ Liquid, DJ Tom and Reavers.
