‘Bring Me Down!’ - Spice preaches humility sermon to fallen pastor
Dancehall queen Spice has encouraged embattled pastor Jeffery Shuttleworth to use this moment as a spiritual reset.
Shuttleworth, who played a key role in pressuring schools to pull out of her 'Ohhhh No School Tour' in January, had his ministerial credentials revoked by the Jamaica Baptist Union (JBU) last week. The move formally bars him from leading any JBU-affiliated congregation. Spice is now urging the clergyman to see the development as a lesson in humility.
"While you're on your knees, I encourage you to listen to this song - it's called Bring Me Down, by Grace Thrillers. Let the words minister to you ... I pray that when you stand up to walk again, you will walk with a heart that mimics Christ," she said.
The entertainer, who was previously condemned by Shuttleworth for her bold stage persona and subsequently blocked from visiting schools for her motivational tour, is responding to the stunning news that the same pastor has been voted out of his church in a near-unanimous decision.
In a fiery Instagram post laced with scripture, Spice declared that divine justice has a way of coming full circle.
"This is the same pastor who called the Ministry of Education to stop my school tour," she said.
The artiste, born Grace Hamilton, didn't hold back as she addressed what she called Shuttleworth's "hypocritical judgement," recalling how deeply hurt she was by his past words.
"You brought me to tears for days, and see it deh now, while you were so busy chastising, criticising and trying to publicly humiliate me, calling me promiscuous, You were falling short in your own ministry," the artiste said.
"This post is simply to remind you how God works in mysterious ways," she said.
But instead of simply celebrating his downfall, Spice offered a message rooted in reflection and spiritual accountability.
"Let me remind you to read Luke 6:37, which clearly warns, "Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven".
"Not once did you try to win my soul for Christ. Instead you judged me, turned your nose upon me, and that's something Jesus would never do," she wrote.
And she had more scriptures for Shuttleworth.
"While you are going through these moments please reflect on Matthew 23:12 - "For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."
Quoting James 4:6, which states that "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble," Spice said "God's words never lie. Pride and judgement come at a cost".
