Autistic and unstoppable - Hee Hoo Boss ignites with Michael Jackson magic
When a young man with bleached skin, a jerry curl, and a striking resemblance to the King of Pop approached Shay 'Lady Strawbs' Sakaria with an unexpected proposition, she couldn't help but laugh.
"Browning, yuh want to be mi manager?" he asked boldly.
Lady Strawbs had already seen him in action -- he had starred in one of Shevi 9's music videos -- but meeting him in person at a Denham Town studio sealed the deal.
"I just laughed and said, 'Yes, baby, we could do that.' I told him he was going to be my little dancer, and right there, he just jumped up and started doing his Michael Jackson moves," she recalled.
That young man, Ackeem Walker, better known to the dancehall and social media world as 'Hee Hoo Boss' or 'Jamaican MJ'. But beyond the flashy moves and viral fame, Lady Strawbs discovered that the Michael Jackson impersonator is living with autism.
As she got to know him, Lady Strawbs realised that Walker couldn't read or write. Determined to help, she took action.
"I bought kindergarten reading materials for him. The main thing I wanted him to learn was how to count--10, 100, and 1,000--so he could manage his own money," she explained.
Although managing him from the UK, her connection with Walker runs deep.
"My children are autistic, I have 22-year-old twins, so they are around the same age as Ackeem. So it is natural that I developed a bond with him," she said.
But online critics haven't always been kind.
"Sometimes I will tell myself that I am glad he cannot read, and it is because of the negative comments that he gets when he is on his live [posts]. When he hears people say that he is dunce and he is a mad man, I had to come on to the live and explain that he is not mad nor dunce, but he is autistic and is a special-needs individual. He has an obsession with Michael Jackson and nothing is wrong with that, because there are so many Michael Jackson impersonators in the world," Lady Strawb added.
Meanwhile, the Hee Hoo Boss told THE WEEKEND STAR that he is pleased with the reception to his latest track, Wine Up Fi Di Hee Hoo Boss.
"A mi make up the song, and mi record it and put it on TikTok, and everybody start sing it and it go viral. Mi just go deh and the lyrics come; and mi go round a one studio and take mi likkle time sing pon di key and voice it. Right now everybody a dance to it, and the girl dem nuh stop wine up fi di Hee Hoo Boss," he said, as he takes a sip from a bottle of non-alcoholic champagne.
The entertainer later made a post that he needed an 'army' of sexy females for the music video, and the call was answered.
"A whole heap a nice, nice girls come fi di video shoot eno. More time a evening time mi have hee hoo class and the girls dem come and wine up fi mi and entertain mi," he said.
As he performed the single, the youngster was like a ball of energy as he pranced and danced, showing off moves similar to those of the late pop star. He said that he hopes his talent will land him on the big stage soon, so he will continue to record tracks and dance his way towards greatness.
"Mi have two more song fi do and mi soon voice dem; and mi still a dance same way. Mi love dancing and mi love Michael Jackson. Everybody say mi look like him when him did younger, in the Thriller days," he said.
