Broadbell set for hat-trick

FOR the past three years, Rasheed Broadbell, Hansle Parchment and Orlando Bennett have dominated the men's 110m hurdles at the National Senior Championships, occupying the top three spots.
In 2022, Parchment came out on top ahead of Broadbell and Bennett, respectively, while Broadbell was victorious in both 2023 and 2024. In 2023, Parchment was second and Bennett third, while last year, Broadbell made it back-to-back wins over Bennett and Parchment in an extremely close affair. Both Broadbell and Bennett clocked 13.18 seconds, with Parchment just behind in 13.19.
Based on form so far this season, Broadbell has been the country's top man in the event, with a season best of 13.06, placing him at number five on the World Top List.
Known for his usually slow start and late, fast-finishing burst, Broadbell has significantly improved his start, and this could spell danger for his opponents.
Come this weekend, we could very well see a sub-13 seconds clocking from him as he goes for a hat-trick of wins.
Bennett has been one of the most improved male sprint hurdlers in the country. After a terrific run last year, where he was edged out by Broadbell, he will be hoping to fix that this time and go all the way for his first national senior title. With a season best of 13.29 -- ranking him fourth among Jamaicans -- he normally shows his best at these Championships and should definitely go much faster.
The veteran Parchment has hardly been on the track this season due to injury concerns. His best so far came in May in Shaoxing, China, where he finished sixth in 13.32. Despite being ranked sixth among Jamaicans this season, he has the class and experience to deliver when it matters most and will definitely be in the mix for another top-three finish.
Former St Jago High sprint hurdler Demario Prince has been in good form on the collegiate circuit for Baylor University this season. With a season best of 13.18, he is the country's second-best performer in the event. At the recent NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships, he finished fifth and will be eyeing a top-three finish.
Two other collegiate standouts -- Jerome Campbell with a best of 13.23, ranked number three, and Jaheim Stern, with 13.29 at number five and who finished seventh at the NCAA Championships -- will also be hoping for big performances as they look to make their presence felt.
Tyler Mason, who was fourth last year, will be hoping for a big improvement as well. But in the end, it should be Broadbell all the way, as he looks set for title number three.
