Edwin Allen’s Clarke, KC’s Dawkins dominate

Edwin Allen High School's Dashanelle Clarke and Kingston College's (KC) Daquan Dawkins ruled supreme at the JAAA Age-Group Multi-Events Trial at Jamaica College yesterday, topping their female and male counterparts in the 13-14 category.

The two-day trial, which ended yesterday, was used to select athletes for the July 4-6 NACAC Under-13 and Under-15 Championships to be held in Managua, Nicaragua.

Among the girls, Clarke topped the heptathlon - seven events - amassing 3,996 points. She finished ahead of schoolmate Danielle Clarke, second with 3,864 points, while Holmwood Technical's Meya Thomas ended third with 3,742 points.

Dashanelle dominated across the two days, winning four of the seven events contested. Her victories came in the 60m hurdles (9.27 seconds), long jump (5.25 metres), high jump (1.50-metre), and ball throw (47.66 metres). She also placed third in the 80m (10.36), eighth in the 1000m (3:52.86), and 10th in the shot put with a heave of 7.22m.

It was also a one-two finish for KC in the boys'equivalent, with Dawkins tallying 5,121 points to finish ahead of teammate Nahjier Francis, who scored 4,935. Nicholas Jones of Lacovia High was third with 4,920 points.

Dawkins claimed victory in three events -- the 80m hurdles (11.57 seconds), long jump (6.37m), and high jump (1.86m). He was fourth in the ball throw (56.93m), fifth in the 1200m (3:54.27), seventh in the shot put (11.26m), and 10th in the 80m flat (9.89).

In the 11-12 age group, competitors participated in five events, the pentathlon.

In the girls section, St Patrick's Primary's Jenoi Daley finished on top with 2,536 points, followed closely by Lyssons Primary's Danelia Speid with 2,534. Javonah McKenzie of Naggo Head Primary was third with 2,479 points.

Daley was first in the high jump (1.40m), second in the 60m (8.67 seconds), second in the ball throw (38.90m), fourth in the 800m (2:48.82), and seventh in the long jump (4.15m).

In the boys' competition, Lyssons Primary's Davare Walker secured victory with 2,985 points. He notched wins in the 60m (8.05 seconds), high jump (1.55m), and long jump (5.25m). He also placed fifth in the 1000m (3:27.76) and 10th in the ball throw (33.04m).

Ricardo Granville of Naggo Head Primary finished second with 2,913 points, while Rushawn Edwards of APP Track Academy was third with 2,898.
