44 top high school athletes for Grand Slam Track

April 04, 2025

Forty-four of the country's top high school athletes, who recently represented their schools at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships, will be in action tomorrow at the inaugural Grand Slam Track (GST) event.

In collaboration with ISSA and GST, top male and female athletes in the 100m, 200m and 400m were invited to showcase their talent. Despite a few athletes declining the invitation, the line-ups will feature the majority of those who shone brightly last week.

Newly crowned girls' champions Hydel High will lead the list of invitees, with five of their athletes set to compete, led by Class One double champion Jody Ann Daley. Daley, who won the 100m hurdles and the 200m, where she upstaged Lacovia High's Sabrina Dockery, will contest the 200m. With a best time of 23.53 seconds, she will go up against Shanoya Douglas of Muschett High.

Douglas, the World Under-20 bronze medallist in the event, was a Class Two sprint double champion at Champs. Her winning time in the 200 metres was 23.30 seconds, and her clash with Daley could be the main attraction among schoolers.

An exciting battle looms in the girls' 400m as the three medallists in Class One -- Hydel's Abigail Campbell (53.03s), Holmwood's Abdina Wright, and Edwin Allen's Kelly Ann Carr (53.53) -- will take on Hydel's Natasha Fletcher. Fletcher recorded the fastest time among females in the one-lap event, after winning the Class Two race in 52.82 seconds.

Dockery will lead the Girls' Class One 100m with her season and personal best of 11.08 seconds, achieved in her semi-final at Champs.
