Detectives attached to the St Thomas Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man in connection with an alleged gun attack on police during a pre-dawn raid in Lanes Gate, Bull Bay, on Thursday, July 3.

Delano Brissett, 34, otherwise called 'Shrimpy', an equipment operator of Lanes Gate, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and shooting with intent.

According to the Morant Bay police, about 2:45 a.m., a team armed with a search warrant under the Firearms Act conducted a targeted operation at Brissett's home. Upon entering the premises, the officers reportedly came under heavy gunfire from Brissett and his accomplice, 27-year-old Jhedelle Christie, otherwise called 'Jay', of Water Road in the parish.

The police returned fire, and during the exchange, Christie was shot and found clutching a blue Ruger nine-millimetre pistol.

He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Brissett fled the scene on foot but later surrendered to the authorities.

A question-and-answer session was conducted in the presence of his attorney, after which Brissett was formally charged.

He is scheduled to appear before the St Thomas Parish Court on July 25.
